Fellow Members,

The Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE is over 300 strong! Thank you to all that have supported the Chapter over the last year (decade, half century). Every year we receive a great deal of individual and corporate support that helps our Chapter serve our membership and meet our financial obligations to Society.

In addition to volunteering for committees and participating in events, one of the important ways that individuals can help the Chapter is by including your Chapter dues along with your Society dues when you renew your ASHRAE membership.

If you are not a dues-paying member, please consider becoming one in the future. Of the 300 ASHRAE members in the Jacksonville Chapter area (which extends to and includes “Sections” in Tallahassee and Gainesville), we average about 60% dues-paying members. If you are a member of Society and not a Chapter dues-paying member, I hope you will consider becoming one this year.

Several of us are returning from the 2007 CRC (Chapters Regional Conference) with news of great accomplishments and valuable information. For those of you that may not be aware, the CRC is a gathering of all the chapters in our Region (we are in Region XII and ASHRAE membership worldwide is broken up into 14 regions).

At the CRC, the Jacksonville Chapter received several awards for our achievements this last year (‘06/’07). Our former and current Membership Chair, Shannon Karney, received the Red Ribbon Award for Membership Promotion. John Winslow, our former Chapter Technology Transfer Committee (CTTC) Chair and current Publicity Chair, received a Certificate of Appreciation for CTTC for promoting sustainability. Our Chapter also received the first ever Region XII Presidential Award of Excellence award for sustainability.

I would like to thank all those that served on committees and as committee chairs last year, and especially Stew Sedgwick for his leadership last year as Chapter President.

For this coming year, we have a new set of officers, governors and committee chairs. I encourage you to look on Page 2 where they are listed with their contact information. Please feel free to contact any of us if you have a question or concern. If you are interested in participating in a committee, let us know.

It is an honor and a privilege to be your Chapter President. We have a lot planned and I look forward to another successful ASHRAE Jax year. Hope you are too!

Frank Mangin
Chapter President

2006 - 07

Fellow Members,

One of our Chapter’s most important assets is our members. The outstanding support we receive from our members is the main reason the Jacksonville Chapter is one of the top chapters in our region. That support primarily comes from three sources: volunteer effort, attendance at our chapter meetings and social functions, and financial support especially to ASHRAE Research.

The Board of Director’s main goal this year is to increase our member support. This can be accomplished in two ways: increase support from existing members and increase our membership. In an effort to increase support from our existing members, the Board will actively encourage our younger members to volunteer to help serve on our committees in an effort to increase their involvement in ASHRAE. In an effort to increase attendance at our Chapter meetings, John Winslow has e-mailed to our members a survey soliciting input for topics and guest speakers. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to respond to the survey. This is an important first step to increasing attendance. Equally important is the Board’s effort in reminding our members of our Chapter Meetings through faxes, e-mails, telephone calls and most important, The Diffuser.

One of our biggest challenges is to increase our contributions to ASHRAE research. By effectively communicating to our members the importance of ASHRAE research and how our contributions do make a difference, I am confident our Chapter will respond.

In an effort to increase or membership, I would like to ask for help from our current members. If each company represented in our chapter would bring just one potential new member to our next chapter meeting, I am confident we can dramatically grow our Chapter.

In closing, I would like to say that our Board of Directors and Committee Chairmen are ready for the challenge ahead. We look forward to the opportunity to serve our Chapter. As always, our focus is to continue to increase our Chapter’s value to our membership.

Stew Sedgwick

November / December 2003

As your chapter president, I am fortunate to have a fantastic and talented group of members who have the desire to give back to our industry and community through their participation in our family, the Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE.

First, I would like to thank Wayne Brooks for chairing our Fall Golf Outing on September 15th and Scott Bohn and John Hale for their 11th hour assistance in making the event such a huge success.

Next, I would like to thank Doctors Sherif and Ingley, for their continual efforts in bringing new members into our student chapter at the University of Florida. Our October 7th dinner meeting in Gainesville was packed. The lifeblood of our industry is to recruit the very best engineering graduates into the arts and sciences of HVAC & R. The panel discussion with Steve Cadwallader (consulting engineer), Joey Robinson (mechanical contractor) and John Winslow (sales engineer) was excellent and should draw more students to consider a career in our industry.

Finally, I would like to thank, Johnson Controls and Loren West for chairing our “Oyster Roast” on Friday December 5th at the Ramallah American Club on Parental Home Road and Joy Pacella at Blue Heron for again handling the distribution of the tickets, If you need tickets please contact Joy at 904.246.0081/ japacella@mindspring.com. For chapter members attending the Oyster Roast, the 2003/2004 Chapter Roster and Product Directory will be available. Yes, it is in hard copy!!

Besides the December 5th Oyster Roast, we have two events in November to ring out 2003. We have a lunch meeting on Tuesday, November 11th at 11:30 AM Radisson Riverwalk Hotel, and our semi-annual Chapter Pool Tournament on Wednesday, November 19th. Additional details can be found either at our chapter website, www.ashraejax.org or in this newsletter. Please note that our grand web master, Bryan Pratt, has been busy adding a RSVP form to our chapter website. Please give it a try.

We need five volunteers to help serve on the chapter nominating committee. The committee selects candidates from members in good standing for officers and Board of Governors. The time involvement as a member of this committee is approximately 8 hours during the next four months. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Have a safe and joyous holiday season, Ron

September / October 2003

The tradition of excellence was repeated at our Chapters Regional Conference on August 15th when Jacksonville received a Presidential Award of Excellence (PAOE) with a Special Citation, Star and High Honor Roll for its ASHRAE activities in 2002-2003. Under Scott Bohn’s leadership the Chapter had earned more PAOE points than any other chapter in our region. PAOE points are awarded to the chapter for activities that help Society achieve it’s goals of serving its members and also the general public on HVAC&R matters. Besides Scott, all of our chapter chairs received awards. They were John Nelson (Resource Promotion), John Winslow (Membership Promotion), Randy Theen (Student Activities), Rick Daber (Technical and Governmental Affairs), and Joey Robinson (Chapter Programs) and Ben Cole (Historian). Also, recognized for their continuing service to our chapter, Barney VonHerrmann and Suzanne Leviseur received the Distinguished Chapter Service Awards. Both Barney and Suzanne are past chapter presidents who have elected to stay active within our chapter. I would like to challenge all of our past chapter presidents to come back to your ASHRAE “family” by attending two chapter functions this year and when you come consider bringing a guest. On August 19th , we had our first chapter meeting of the new Society year. We had a good turnout with Dr. Gary Siebien as our luncheon speaker. Gary provided insight on “Ten Ways to Provide a High-Quality Acoustical Environment in Schools”. After lunch, the chapter hosted an ASHRAE 3 PDH credit seminar on acoustics which was presented by Dr. Siebien. In reviewing the seminar sign-in sheet , I was pleased that the over 30 people in attendance were equally divided among architects, engineers and contractors.

In September we have a Golf Outing (The Chair is Wayne Brooks @ 904.642.5303) on Monday, September 15th and a Chapter Lunch Meeting on Wednesday, September 24th 11:30 AM at the Prime Osbourne Center in conjunction with Plant Engineering Show.

In October we will again have two meetings October 7th and 14th. On October 7th in Gainesville, we will have a dinner meeting . The program will consist of our University of Florida Student Design Team presenting their entry that took second place in Society competition. On October 14th in Jacksonville, we have a lunch meeting at the Radisson River Walk followed by our IAQ Forum which caries PDH credits (The Chair is Bob Lea @ 904.3965173). To you past presidents and other chapter members that have not been to a chapter function, come on back to your ASHRAE “family”. Ron Kessner

July / August 2003

As I was being installed the other evening as the forty-seven president of the Jacksonville Chapter, I could not help but reflect on the tradition of excellence that has been the hallmark of this chapter, along with the personal and professional impact ASHRAE has had on me and my family.

Under Scott Bohn, our chapter continued the tradition of ASHRAE excellence. Scott also had the foresight to implement a road map that has returned our chapter to a solid financial foundation. This was especially important due to the chapter expenses associated with this year's Chapter Regional Conference in Puerto Rico and having our chapter host a similar conference in August 2004. I look forward to Scott's continued service and counsel this year as a member of the Board of Governors.

I am blessed to have a diverse group of very dedicated individuals in our chapter leadership ranks. You will find their names and positions listed in this newsletter. Since a chapter functions best when committees have 3 or 4 members, please give the committee chairs a call and volunteer to assist them. The chapter meeting schedule is also in the newsletter. John Hale as chapter vice-president is responsible for chapter programs. He has provided an outstanding blend of social and technical programs for the year. In July, we have a family outing at our new baseball park. At the August chapter meeting, we'll have an outstanding program followed by a seminar. Also in August, we have a Chapter Regional Conference (CRC) in Puerto Rico. If you have any ideas that will improve ASHRAE please get with Joey Robinson or myself so that we can present your ideas as a motion at the CRC. If your motion, is approved at CRC it is forwarded to Society for additional consideration. In September, we'll have a golf outing that Wayne Brooks will chair and a lunch meeting at the Prime Osbourne Center in conjunction with the "Plant Engineers Show" Please start thinking about putting together your foursomes for the golf outing.

At the June meeting, we had incoming Society president, Richard Rooley install the new officers. This was very special for my wife, Kate and myself, since we considered Richard and his wife, Ruth, as dear friends and members of our ASHRAE family. The chain of events that led to my meeting Richard, in the summer of 1979 can be traced back to the Jacksonville chapter. I became a member of ASHRAE shortly after arriving in Jacksonville in 1972. The chapter had dinner meetings that continued to wee hours of the morning, the entire oyster roast was done by the membership which included all the set-up, cleaning the oyster, cooking, and clean-up the next morning. Having no family in the area, some of the people we met through the chapter became " family "and have continued to be lifelong friends. Thanks to Frank Houser, who chaired the 1977 Region IV CRC, I ended-up helping Frank, by chairing the social events which included the Oyster Roast. The CRC and Oyster Roast was a great success. Kate and myself met a lot of great people that later became part of our growing ASHRAE" family". When, my company decided that I was having too much fun in Jax, they transferred us to Atlanta. The folks we meet at the CRC, 60 days earlier, immediately got us involved with chapter activities which led to regional and then Society leadership positions. The leadership and networking, I obtained through active participation in ASHRAE has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. I am honored to serve this chapter as president and my hope for all the chapter members to experience the ASHRAE "family".

May / June 2003

The last couple of months have included a lunch meeting and a golf outing. The March meeting was well attended and the presentation regarding pump selection was very good. The April resource promotion golf outing was successful in raising funds for research promotion. The players enjoyed a beautiful afternoon on the golf course and the club did a fine job. I want to thank John Nelson who as resource promotion chairman organized the event. See inside for details on the results.

The officer nominating committee announced the nominations for next year’s chapter officers at our last outing. We will be voting at the next chapter meeting and will have next years officers inducted by the incoming society president in June. The May program will be a lunch meeting and the June meeting will be an evening meeting. Please see inside to confirm the meeting details. We will also be having another pool tournament in May. You don’t have to be a pool shark to enjoy this event. I encourage you to join us for a fun evening.

As we now distribute newsletters every 2 months this will be my last message. The president elect is Ron Kessner who I am confident will perform well in his duties as president next year. I want to thank my chapter officers, governors and committee chairs for all of their work in making the past year a success and an enjoyable experience for me and the chapter. I want to thank the members for their participation in the meetings and socials. I also want to thank the corporate sponsors who helped both in making the socials more enjoyable as well as keeping the chapter in good financial condition. I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meetings and events.

March / April 2003

I want to thank Patience Kurtz and Larry Turknett for their efforts in planning the Presidents Ball. We had 80-90 people attend this year’s event at the Timucuana Club. It was nice to see so many past presidents and from the comments I’ve heard everyone had an enjoyable evening.

We also held a meeting in Gainesville in February. We had 40 people attend the meeting on acoustics in HVAC design including some 13 students. I know some of those in attendance also went to the UF basketball game and had a good time.

For our March meeting Joey has lined up Ray Algren with Bell & Gossett who will discuss "Energy Savings in Hydronic Systems". It will be a lunch meeting at the Radisson Riverwalk (See inside for details).

In April we will hold our Spring golf outing to benefit resource promotion. This year’s chairman is John Nelson who has scheduled the event for Monday, April 14 at The St. Johns Golf & CC. So come enjoy a round of golf and help support ASHRAE Research.

Lastly I want to congratulate Ben and Karen Cole on the birth of their daughter, Hannah Grace. If any of you members would like to share any announcements with the rest of the chapter please email them to Karen who is our newsletter editor. I hope to see you all at the meetings.

January / February 2003

I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season. The last couple of social meetings went very well. The pool tournament had 25-30 participants and the first winner of the event was Mark Wilson of The Trane Company. It was a lot of fun and hopefully we’ll have even more participate in the spring.

The oyster roast was also a good time and we had ~ 350 in attendance. The socials have remained somewhat familiar in format over the years but if anyone has any suggestions on how we might improve any of them please email your suggestions to me or Ron Kessner.

The January meeting is a lunch meeting on the 14th at the Radisson. The topic will be Condenser Water Applications in Relation to Ice Thermal Storage and Energy Conservation. Please RSVP to Joey Robinson for all chapter programs. In February we will be having our Presidents Ball. The event will be held at Timuquana Country Club. We will also be having a chapter meeting to be held in Gainesville in February. This meeting will be held around 5:00 and we are coordinating in on a date when UF basketball team will be at home at 7:00 for those who may want to see a game after the meeting. See details inside.

Lets get the new year started right by having a good attendance at our meetings. Hope to see you there.

November / December 2002

I want to thank all of those who helped to make our Fall Golf Outing a success this year. We had 60 golfers participate and ~ 30 companies sponsor holes for this year’s event. Please see inside for the results of this year’s tournament, sponsors and benefactors. Money raised by the outing will be used to help fund the chapter’s operations for the year. With the help of Ben Cole, John and Erika Nelson, I was able to chair the tournament and a good time was had by all.

In October our chapter hosted an IAQ seminar which was held at the JEA customer service center. Ron Kessner chaired the event with the "Standards of Care" topic. Ron was able to line up several expert speakers for the forum that also carried continuing education credits. The forum helps in our contributions to ASHRAE research which is important to our industry. I want to thank the JEA for use of their facilities and Ron Kessner for his work in organizing this year’s forum.

For November and December we have a few more meetings/socials planned. Our next chapter meeting is a lunch meeting scheduled for November 12th at the Radison Riverwalk. See inside for details. Also in November we have something new scheduled. Joey Robinson has put together a pool tournament. See inside for details. I hope you will enjoy a night out with your fellow ASHRAE members for a friendly game of pool. Mark your calendar for our annual Oyster Roast on December 6th. Don Eshelman has agreed to chair the event for another year. The oyster roast will once again be held at the Ramallah American Club on Parental Home Rd. the first Friday in December. Tickets are being distributed through Joy with Blue Heron Consulting so please confirm how many you will need as soon as possible.

Ben Cole, David Spell, and Bryan Pratt are putting together a Roster and Product Directory and hope to have a hard copy completed by the first of the year. After the hard copy Bryan will work on putting the information on our website. Hopefully everyone was able to connect to our last diffuser via our website. We will be distributing the newsletter this way only for those who have provided email addresses. If you still would like to receive a hard copy of the diffuser as well as the link, you must contact Ben Cole at 306-9111 or myself at 394-7971 before the end of the year.

I know this time of year can be very busy for many of you but don’t forget to pencil in your ASHRAE meetings. Happy holidays and I hope to see you soon! Scott R. Bohn, P.E. Chapter President

September / October 2002

The Jacksonville chapter was well represented at the Region XII CRC in August by all our committee chairs, President and President Elect and several regional chairs from our chapter. Some of our members who serve ASHRAE on a regional level include Suzanne Leviseur, Dick Worth, Lane Jackins, and Ben Cole. At this year’s CRC, Jacksonville was recognized as the most improved chapter in the region for the past year. Congratulations to Ben Cole for his work in achieving this honor. John Winslow was recognized as the best membership promotion chair and Ron Kessner was recognized as the best programs chair for the region last year. Congratulations to both John and Ron and thank you to all the new committee chairs for attending. It is always interesting to see what other chapters are doing.

One item other chapters are doing that we are looking into is putting the chapter newsletter on our website. We could then email the membership with a link to the site. This could help reduce our printing and mailing expenses which are significant. We would still mail hard copies to those without net access. Another item we are working on is to list our roster and product directory on our website. You should have received a letter in the mail requesting you to update your information. Please complete the information and confirm whether or not you mind being listed on the website. You can also go to the website at http://www.ashraejax.org/roster/memberupdate.html and update your address online. We will be putting out a hard copy of the roster and product directory as well and will try to have it available by the December Oyster Roast.

Please see the enclosed information for the Fall Golf Outing. Don’t delay in getting your foursomes together and faxed to me as soon as possible. We hope to have a full field for a good day on the golf course. Also enclosed is information regarding this year’s IAQ forum which is being held in October. Ron Kessner is chairing this event which is very informative and also carries continuing education credits. I have included some sponsorship packages for your consideration that recognize those who support the chapter at multiple functions.

I would like to thank Eugene Smithart for his presentation at our August meeting. We had a good turnout for an evening meeting and if you couldn’t attend hopefully you’ll make the next one. Joey Robinson has scheduled a September meeting coinciding with the Prime Osborne Plant and Engineering Show. See inside for details and I hope to see you there.

July / August 2002

Hello! My name is Scott Bohn and it is my pleasure to serve as your chapter president for the next year. For those of you who may not know me yet, I work as a project manager at W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor. I am 34 years old, married with one daughter and another one on the way. Originally from Savannah, I graduated from Georgia Tech and have lived in Jacksonville for 10 years.

It is my difficult task to take over from Ben Cole who has done an outstanding job as president for the last year. Many thanks to Ben for a job well done. At our June meeting we had our installation of officers performed by the incoming society president, Dr. Don Colliver. Dr. Colliver also gave his presidential address in which he outlined his vision for ASHRAE in our world and some of his goals for the future. It was a nice evening for those in attendance.

Programs chair for this year is Joey Robinson. We will continue to hold lunch meetings as attendance is best at this time. Joey is confirming the location we will use for the year. Meetings will be held the 2nd Tuesday of the month. As usual we will have a Fall golf outing in October, the oyster roast in December, The President’s Ball in February, and Spring golf outing in April. Joey is in the process of lining up speakers for this year so if you have any suggestions for speakers or topics for meetings please contact Joey or myself.

In August we will be having a family bowling night (Details to follow). This year’s CRC will be held August 14th-18th at Hutchinson Island near Stewart. See details inside for those who plan to attend. If any of you would like to make motions for changes in ASHRAE on the society level contact Ron Kessner or myself who will represent our chapter for this CRC.

Together with the new officers and committee chairs I look forward to another educational and fun year.

May / June 2002

As the end of my term as President comes closer everyday, I have a greater respect for the Past President's who have been before me. The next two months will be full of completing this years goals, finalizing year end paperwork, and the planning of next years activities. With the successful completion of the Spring Golf Outing, there are only two more meetings for the 2001-2002 fiscal year. Fortunately, we have saved the best for last. Both the May and June meetings will be evening meetings with exceptional speakers. The May meeting will feature Dr. Richard Hayter and the incoming Society President Don Colliver will speak at the June meeting to finish the year with a sneak peak at Don's presidential agenda for ASHRAE. Look in the diffuser for dates and times of the meeting and be sure to plan early to attend and RSVP.

The lights might have gone out in Jacksonville on April 29th, but The Spring Golf Outing was a great success with 80 golfers participating and the event raised $6,000 for ASHRAE Research Promotion. Thank you Scott Bohn for your outstanding work in organizing the event and thank you to all the participants and sponsors. This event will not be forgotten for a long time.

I want to thank all the members of the Board of Governors for making my year as President a very enjoyable experience. Thank you Scott Bohn for anchoring the board with your experience and taking on the role of Research Promotion Chairman. Thank you, Ron Kessner for developing an outstanding schedule of meetings that brought the members to the meetings. Thank you to Joey Robinson, Neff Jenkins, Art Hill, Don Eshelman, Buddy Doll, Eric Lentz, and Chris Fowler for your leadership as Officers and Governors of the Board.

The chairs were lead by a dedicated group of members that just did what was necessary to get the job done. Patience Barker again led the charge with Student Activities building on her great success from last year. The student section in Gainesville is stronger than ever with her leadership and with the help of Dr. Sherif, Dr. Ingley, and Randy Theen. Thank you to all for all you have done this year.

John Winslow charged ahead with Membership Promotion and has increased the membership substantially over the past year. Using unique ideas, John has stepped it up a notch in regards to member support. Thank you John for an outstanding performance this year.

Melsie Lui, volunteered to take the demanding role of TEGA chair when no one else would. Her dedication to learning about TEGA and her role in ASHRAE is evident in her results for the year. Thank you Melsie for taking on the challenge and excelling at it.

Eric Lentz has continued the process of maintaining historical archives of the chapter and recording this years events. Thank you Eric for your hard work. And a special thanks for being a mentor for me as I have gone through this year as President. Your advice and guidance has guided me throughout the year.

Bryan Pratt has again maintained the Chapter Website for another year allowing our chapter to have another form of communication of events and chapter announcements. Thank you for continually updating the website to keep the Jacksonville Chapter in the modern age.

A special thank you goes out to my wife Karen Cole for being the Editor for the Diffuser for this past year, and for supporting me during the past seven years I have been in ASHRAE. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the best members in ASHRAE, The Jacksonville Chapter.

March / April 2002

The new year is moving fast and so is the chapter. The past two months has been full of activity with Engineers Week, the President’s Ball, and meetings in Gainesville. The next couple of months will be full of activities also with the upcoming golf outing, elections of officers, and the final push for Research Promotion Contributions.

The President’s Ball was a great success with 80 people in attendance. If you were not able to attend, you missed a great evening. This year 14 past president’s were in attendance. I want to thank the President’s Ball Committee for pulling together a great evening. The night would not have been possible without the sponsorship of the members and the sponsors listed in the presidents ball. I want to extend a special thank you to Applied Mechanical, Blue Heron Consulting, Carrier, and National Sheet Metal for being Gold Sponsors.

Look in this diffuser for information for the upcoming Golf Outing to support Research Promotion. This year it will be held at Fleming Island and is expected to be one of the most successful outings in a long time. Contact Scott Bohn to secure your place in the line up and be a sponsor.

With the close of the ASHRAE year approaching fast, it is time to develop next years committee chairs. If you would like to volunteer to chair a committee, or be on a committee, let myself or Scott Bohn know. Now is the time to get involved, the 2003 Chapter Regional Conference will be held in Puerto Rico so you do not want to miss an opportunity like that.

Thank you to all the members who have been active and supportive in the chapter. Attendance at meetings is steady and growing. The student section is growing in leaps and bounds and support by the members in Gainesville is growing along with them. I want to extend a special thank you to Heat Pipe Technologies and Affiliated Engineers for their support of the Gainesville meetings.

As always, myself and the Board of Governors are here to serve you, so if you need any help, please let me know.

January / February 2002

Happy New Year. 2001 is gone and 2002 is well on its way. It is amazing how fast the year has gone. There is still plenty of work to be done for the upcoming year in ASHRAE.

I encourage all the members to come out for the January meeting and the Annual President's Ball in February. The President's Ball is the chapter's and members opportunity to thank the past presidents for their contributions to the chapter. See inside for details and call for you tickets today.

With the start of the year, the chapters focus will now turn toward Research Promotion. The 2001-2002 campaign is progressing nicely with over $6,000 donated to date. I would like to thank all those who have contributed so far for their generosity. If you have not given to date, start now to think about how much you would like to give. You will have plenty of opportunities in the next couple of months. The annual Spring Golf outing is coming up in March where the majority of the funds are collected, so plan now to attend. The Research Promotion Committee will also be calling you soon to verify your contributions. Thank you for being generous, and remember to be part of the 35 Cent Club.

Mark down the upcoming events and hope to see you there. Happy New Year and I know this year will be a success for you and the Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE. Thank you again for your support last year and the new year.

November / December 2001

As the weather turns colder, and the leaves turn color, the end of the year is fast approaching. The past two months have been full of activities for ASHRAE Members. All the functions could not have been such a great success without the hard work and dedication of the Board of Governors, Committees, Local Businesses, and the Chapter Members. Thank you to all you had a part in making the past couple of months a great success.

September started off with the September Meeting at the Annual Plant and Engineering Show at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. Mike Bielamowicz was the speaker and gave a very informative talk on Corrosion Protection. Thank you Mike for your time and effort. The meeting also included several students coming up from Gainesville to attend the meeting and see the show.

The Fall Golf Classic was held in October and again was a great success. Over 80 golfers participated in the outing. Thank you to the participates and especially the Sponsors. Without all of your participation, the outing would not be the great success it always is. Thank you to Tommy Miersejewski, Neff Jenkins, John Hale, Ron Kessner, Lane Jackins, Scott Bohn, and Hidden Hills for making the outing a great success. I want to send a special thank you to the winners of the golf tournament. Steve Moore, Mike Hubbard, Terry Cosgrove, and Troy English won first place in the tournament. They donated the $600.00 they won as a team to Siemen's Helping Hand Fund. Siemens matched the donation and a total of $1,200 was donated in the name of the Jacksonville Chapter to help the victims of the tragic events on September 11, 2001. Thank you for your generosity.

The annual Indoor Air Quality Seminar had an outstanding 49 participates. The event was the first to provide Continuing Education Units for practicing Engineers. In addition, $8,000 was raised for Research Promotion. Thank you to all the individuals and companies who attended. Thank you to Scott Bohn, Ron Kessner, and Neff Jenkins for organizing and making the event such a great success.

The local Trane Company hosted this years ASHRAE satellite broadcast on Standard 90.1. Thank you for your continued support of ASHRAE and the distribution of knowledge related to our industry.

November and December will continue to be busy months for the members. There is a meeting in Gainesville on November 8th and then the Jacksonville meeting on November 13th. I encourage all members to attend the meetings. The November meeting will be used to recognize last years contributors to Research Promotion. The Annual Oyster Roast will be on Friday, December 7th at the Ramallah American Club. This is a fun event for all members including their friends, family, and business associates. Plan now to attend and hope to see you there.

I had the pleasure of attending the monthly meeting of the student section at the University of Florida at the end of October. Over 20 students attended the monthly meeting where I talked about what a Mechanical Engineer does. It was quite educational for me and helped me to see the potential of the students getting ready to join the work force. The future definitely holds many opportunities for the students and the fortunate companies who will hire them. The students' knowledge about the HVAC industry is continually improving due to the hard work of the students and professors. Thank you Dr. Ingley and Randy Theen for allowing me the opportunity.

Mark down the upcoming events and hope to see you there. Thank you again.

Thank you to all the members who attended the August meeting. Over 40 members were present to hear Kim Shinn present an overview of Green Building Design that was definitely an eye opener. Thank you Kim for a great presentation.

The Chapter Regional Conference was held in Miami from August 16th _ 19th. It was a very busy three days with the Jacksonville Chapter well represented at all the business meetings and social functions. I would like to thank all the committees for having a representative for every workshop. The workshops were very informative and the group brought back plenty of ideas to help serve the membership for the upcoming year.

As part of the conference, the hard work of last years committees were awarded at the President's Dinner and the Award's Luncheon. As usual, the Jacksonville chapter was awarded with several honors as a group and as individual members.

The Chapter did an outstanding job in the Presidential Award of Excellence. TEGA, Student Activities, Research Promotion, and Chapter Programs each received recognition and a ribbon for highest points for our chapter size. All other committees did an excellent job and all made PAR. The chapter received Full Circle Award, High Honor Roll and a Special Citation for Research Promotion.

Eric Lentz received the Star Award Special Citation for significant improvement in membership, attendance, research promotion, education, chapter programs, and technology during his term of office. Great job Eric.

Ron Kessner received two awards for his success in Research Promotion. The first was an Outstanding Performance Award for being a Challenge Goal Buster for collecting $21,505. The second award was in recognition of Region XII reaching $100,000 for the second consecutive year. It is due to Ron's hard work and the members' generosity that these goals were attained. As a region, over $180,000 is returned back to the universities for research in our industry. A very good return for your investment.

Dick Worth was awarded two awards for his outstanding service to ASHRAE. He received the Chapter Service Award and the Regional Award of Merit. Congratulations.

Additional awards will be handed out at the September meeting so make plans now to attend.

Remember the Annual Golf Outing is just around the corner, so do not delay, and send in your registration. It is going to be a great event.

Thank you to all the past committee chairs for an outstanding year, and thank you to the current committees for getting this year off to a great start. See you at the next meeting.

July / August 2001

The fiscal year 2001-2002 officially starts July 1, 2001. Along with the new year, comes a new President and Board of Governors. As incoming President, I want to extend a hearty Thank You to Eric Lentz who has led the chapter to another successful year. Through his leadership and support of his Board and Committee Chairs, I believe the Jacksonville Chapter has been able to set a new level of achievement and support of the members. All meetings and activities this year were highly attended and enjoyed by many of our members, as well as non-members. Through joint meetings, and broad topic ranges, our exposure to non-members increased dramatically. This only reinforces the idea that ASHRAE is an organization for all. Thank you Eric and all the members of the Board and Committees for an outstanding year.

The challenge for my self and the incoming Board of Directors is to continue what has been a long tradition in the Jacksonville Chapter and to "Kick It Up A Notch". This year is going to be devoted to serving the Jacksonville Chapter Members. The memberships' needs and desires will be the priority for this year. To accomplish this, there will be several changes in meeting times, and location. Each event will be Kicked Up to serve the members better. An important part of this year will be communication between the members and the Board. Your input throughout the year will help make this year a great success. To insist in this communication, I encourage chapter members to attend the Board of Governors Meetings. Additionally, I have set a goal to contact each and every member at least once this year. Each member will have a Governor assigned to them to allow direct communication for concerns, ideas, and general feed back. Look at your Diffuser address label for your assigned Governor. I hope all members will take advantage of the opportunity to be part of the decision making within the chapter.

The next two months will be busy with preparations for the upcoming Chapter Regional Conference "CRC" in Miami and the transition of positions within the Board and the Committee Chairs. The CRC is the opportunity to bring forward motions to make changes in ASHRAE at a Society and Chapter level. As members, we all have the right to have our views heard and brought forth. Scott Bohn and myself will be your representative at this year CRC. Contact either of us if you have an item to be considered.

The next scheduled event will be the Family Night Suns Baseball Game. We will get together and enjoy a great game and social. The Suns are having a great year and are No. 1 in there division at the All-Star Break. The date is July 28th and the game starts at 7:35. See inside for more details. The first meeting of the year will be August 14th. Kim Shinn will be talking about Green Design. This meeting, as all other regularly scheduled meetings, will be at the Radisson Riverwalk Hotel on Prudential Drive. The change in venue was required to maintain the current cost for lunch and to have several night meetings at a reasonable cost. Plan now to attend. The biggest change of the year has already taken place, the Diffuser will now be printed every other month to minimize cost to the chapter. Email and Faxes will be utilized more often to communicate the latest information. If you do not receive faxes or emails, please contact myself for correction.

I hope you will enjoy this year as a member of ASHRAE. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you this year. Thank you and have a great month.

July 2000

As our fiscal year winds down it is time to reflect on this past year and the many accomplishments that our membership has achieved. As we have discussed many times, we established three goals this year that we felt were critical for our chapter. The first goal was to increase our membership and show a positive growth to our chapter. We accomplished this with 28 new members and we also decreased our delinquency list down to fewer than 5. This exceeds all of our expectations for the year, and I would like to thank Tom Smith for his leadership and commitment to this goal and congratulate him on his recognition regionally for this accomplishment. Our second goal was to increase the donations to Research Promotion from our membership. Joey Robinson accepted our challenge for this goal and he also has exceeded all of our projections for the year as the donations this year from the Jacksonville Chapter will rank among the top 2 or 3 ever for our chapter. Society gave us a goal of $15,000.00, and our board of directors set a goal of $18,000.00, and Joey has surpassed both of these marks with the final tally exceeding $18,500.00. This should rank among the leaders in our region. Congratulations to Joey and all of you who helped and contributed to this most important part of our Society. The third goal for this year was to increase attendance at our monthly meetings and we set a goal to average 70 people at each of the meetings. We did increase our average from 43 to 59 this year, but we fell short of our goal of 70. I still feel that there is a lot of room for improvement in this area and encourage all of you to help President Eric Lentz this coming year to increase attendance.

I need to take time to thank all of the chairpersons for our social events this year. First our fall golf outing was chaired by Pat Norris, and as always Pat provided all of us with a terrific event that everyone enjoyed and also met our requirement to provide enough funds for the chapter operations for the year. The second event is always our biggest and most anticipated for the year, our annual Oyster Roast. This year we had co-chairpersons in Tommy Mierzejewski and John Chaney and all that attended were treated to a special night. With over 340 people, this was another great turnout and we appreciate the commitment that Tommy and John gave to our chapter. The next event was our annual Past Presidents Ball. This year we moved this event to February and Barry French orchestrated the event of the year. All of you who did not attend missed something special. We had 92 people attend with 14 Past Presidents and we thank all of them for their continued support of our chapter.

In conclusion, I want to thank all of the board members for this year, all of the officers and committee chairpersons for helping me to enjoy this year and for all of the time and dedication that each of them committed to make the Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE the best chapter in Region 12 and among the best nationally! I will always cherish the year that we enjoyed and will continue to support and work within our chapter to maintain the high level of consistency that the past leaders established for our chapter. Thanks to all of you for your help and concern for our chapter. Larry Turknett (Past President)!

May 2000

It's hard to believe that it is May already, and our ASHRAE year is practically over. We have set many goals for this chapter, have achieved many of them, and are well on our way with the others. I want to thank Joey Robinson for the time spent and the success of the Research Promotion Golf Tournament, we raised enough money to continue our tradition of giving $5,000.00 from our chapter for this very important part of our Society. Joey is in the midst of his final push for Research Promotion and can use any help that all of you can afford to give, we are currently on pace to have an outstanding year, but we do need to finish strong, so please give if you can.

Please be aware that our June meeting will be the final meeting of our fiscal year and will be a night meeting on June 13, 2000. We want to invite all spouses and/or friends to join us for this meeting and see what ASHRAE is all about. At this meeting we are excited to have Bill Goodman, ASHRAE President, and Rex Noble, Regional Chairman conduct our installation of the new officers and board of directors, and also to share some of their insight on ASHRAE in the new millenium. Let's all try and attend to show our support for the new officers and to impress our society with the strength of the Jacksonville Chapter.

The May 9th meeting will be our annual business meeting to report to the members the affairs of our chapter. This is also the meeting that we need to hear from all of you as to what you like about our chapter, and also what we can do to better serve you and to increase the participation in the events of our chapter. Please try and attend and let's all discuss the things we need to accomplish to better serve you, the membership.

I again want to thank all of you who have been such a great help and inspiration to me during this year, and look forward to supporting all of our future leaders of this great chapter. As always, please contact me or any member of our board of directors if we can be of service to you to increase your support of our chapter.

Have fun and please continue to support ASHRAE!

April 2000

Did you know that 100% of all funds raised for ASHRAE Research go directly to research projects and grants-in-aid? Who raises ASHRAE Research funds? Members of ASHRAE participating in the research promotion efforts of more than 150 local chapters raise most of the funds. The effort is guided by volunteer members of the Research Promotion Committee and is assisted by staff. Contributions to ASHRAE Research are tax deductible, and all contributions will receive an ASHRAE acknowledge receipt of contributions. With all that said, this is a very critical time for our chapter to remain the leader of our region in contributions to ASHRAE Research. Please give, so that our industry can continue to develop standards and technology to benefit all peoples of the world far into this century and beyond. Joey Robinson is our Research Promotion Chairperson, and has continued to move toward our goal of $18,000.00 for this year, but he needs help from all individuals and companies. We ask that all individual donate a minimum of $50.00, and that all companies donate a minimum of $150.00 or improve your last donation by $50.00 additional this year. With everyone's help, we will surpass our goal and remain the envy of all other chapters.

I am sorry to report that 2 very important members of our board of directors have taken new positions out of town and will be leaving our chapter. Our past President Bryan Finch is moving his family to South Carolina, and Wade Gramley is moving along with his future family to North Carolina. We wish both of them success and happiness, and our chapter will not be the same without the dedication and hard work that both of these men have shared with all of us. Along these same lines, President Elect Eric Lentz is currently filling the leadership roles for next year. If you would like to become more involved in the Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE, please contact Eric and he will have an opening for you!

Please note that we will have a Chapter meeting in Gainesville, at the Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday April 12, 2000. We would like to have as many members from Jacksonville attend this meeting and show our support for the Gainesville area and the University of Florida student members who will also be in attendance.

I appreciate all the support that I continue to receive from all of you and will always look to improve our chapter to in any way that will benefit our membership, so please take the time to get involved in our chapter or at least let us know what you like or dislike about what we are doing. Through all of you we can remain the best chapter in not only the region, but also the entire country.

March 2000

Spring is in the air, as we turn our attention away from the winter months and look forward to the outdoor activities that we are so fortunate to have at our disposal in northeast Florida, I want to take a minute to say thank you to all of the Past Presidents that have meant so much to our Chapter. This past month we celebrated all of the Past Presidents at our annual President's Ball and those of you, who could not attend, missed one of the most exceptional events in many years. We were fortunate to have 14 Past Presidents and 92 total members and guest in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the evening and I want to thank Barry & Sandy French for their efforts in chairing this event.

February also included Engineer's Week, and our President Elect Eric Lentz represented our Chapter for all events that we support. Your Board of Directors also approved a $500.00 scholarship for a University of Florida student as recommended by Dr. Sheriff, and this scholarship will be presented at a meeting to be held in April in Gainesville. More details on this meeting will be forthcoming in the very near future.

Research Promotion is the next big hurdle for our chapter, and Joey Robinson is in the process of contacting all of you for your support. Joey also has arranged for our annual spring golf outing which is dedicated to raising funds for ASHRAE Research to be held April 17, 2000 at the Golf Club of Jacksonville (Bent Creek). Please help Joey and our chapter with your support of this event.

Our final thought for this month concerns the future for our Chapter. We are currently compiling a list of candidates for positions on the Board of Directors, Officers, and committee Chairpersons for next Year. We encourage all of you who would like to be involved in our chapter to contact any board member or me this month so that we can continue the positive direction that our chapter is heading. You will enjoy the work, and will be rewarded with knowledge that you will shape the course for ASHRAE in Jacksonville for many years to come.

Thanks for all of your help and remember to support ASHRAE Research!

February 2000

As we look back over the first half of our ASHRAE year, I am proud to say that we are well on our way to meeting and even exceeding the goals that we established to take the Jacksonville chapter to the top of our region. Our first priority was to increase attendance at the monthly meetings, and although we are still short of our target of 70 we have increased the average attendance to around 60 which represents an increase of 25% over the past year. We thank all of you for taking time to support our chapter, but most of all we appreciate the dedication of Ben Cole for securing speakers which are both interesting and appropriate for the concerns of our membership. We still have time to increase our attendance and to meet our overall goal for the year, so please invite someone to our next meeting.

Our membership is on the rise! Throughout the country, membership in ASHRAE is dwindling, but not in Jacksonville. Thanks to Tom Smith our membership is increasing. We set a goal of 20 net new members for the year and for the first half of the year we now have 16 new members, by the end of the year we should exceed all expectations for growth of our chapter.

Research promotion is our next priority, and Joey Robinson is well on his way to an exceptional year. We set a very aggressive goal of $18,000.00 to raise for our chapter, and although we still have a long way to go, we are securing new sources for donations each month that were previously untapped by our chapter. Please support Joey in his efforts and make Jacksonville a leader in support of ASHRAE Research.

All of our fall events were a success well beyond our expectations. The fall golf outing Chaired by Pat Norris, brought out nearly 100 players and raised enough money to support our chapter operations for the year. The oyster roast chaired by John Chaney and Tommy Mierzejewski, sold more tickets than in previous years, with attendance at 340 people, and a night that everyone enjoyed, again we raised enough money to support our scholarships for deserving students.

The final thought that I have for this month is to encourage all of you to support our past presidents of the Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE at our annual Presidents Ball to be held on February 19, 2000 at Club Continental in Orange Park. Barry French promises to make this event one to remember, and to say thanks to all of our past presidents for their time and dedication to our chapter.

Thanks for all of your support for YOUR chapter!

January 2000

If you are reading this letter, then the world did not end with the new millenium and we can finally move forward without listening to all the doom and gloom forecast by the few prognosticators who are always looking for an excuse to create a panic. There is no reason to panic, ASHRAE is in very good position to lead our industry into the future, and what an exiting time to be involved. Through research funded primarily by ASHRAE, it is no longer possible for us to consider only the building and the equipment in the design and operation of air conditioning systems. The health, comfort and productivity of all the occupants are important considerations. This and many other issues await our review, debate and resolutions as we strive to make the world a more comfortable and productive place for all inhabitants.

In our little corner of the world, we have a lot to be thankful for. Our chapter is operating successfully and is well on our way to achieving all the goals that you and the board of directors have placed upon us. Our membership is growing every month, thanks to Tom Smith, our membership chairperson, and we hope to maintain our growth and increase participation throughout the coming year. Joey Robinson is off to a fast start on raising funds for Research Promotion, as we have secured the Full Circle Award for Chapter Officer participation again this year and will look to all members and corporations to increase donations over past year's levels. All of the other committees are well into their campaigns to make this the most recognizable year in our chapter's history, and we appreciate and support all of their dedication and efforts on behalf of our chapter.

Please add a star on your new calendar for February 19th. This is the date for our annual Presidents ball to be held at Club Continental in Orange Park. Barry French has promised that this will be the best event ever, as we are inviting all Past Presidents and their spouses to attend free of charge. If you can help Barry with this event, please call and get involved, we can use all the volunteers we can get!

I hope that this year will bring all of you peace, happiness and prosperity, and that we can find the time and the desire to give someone a helping hand who needs our attention, and remember let's have fun and enjoy ASHRAE.

Thanks for all your time, commitments and concerns.

December 1999

December is upon us, and it is hard to believe that 1999 is almost over. The new millenium is now within shouting distance and our anticipation grows every day. December is the month for our chapter to hold the biggest and the best social event in our region, our annual oyster roast. As I think about this event, I can’t help but to remember an old friend that we recently lost to cancer, Bob Engle was the chairman of the oyster roast for many years, and is the man who brought this event to the Ramallah-American Club for the very first time. Our Chapter will miss Bob and his fun-loving attitude, but will always remember him for his many contributions to ASHRAE. I also want to take a minute to thank John Chaney and Tommy Mierzejewski for all of their time and dedication as the co-chairmen for this years oyster roast, their efforts will be enjoyed by all of us who attend, and will surly be talked about for weeks to come.

December is also the month that we try and bring ASHRAE Research to the forefront in everyone’s mind. As we close out 1999 and are certainly in the giving spirit, be sure and remember ASHRAE Research, for all of us in this business have benefited greatly from the many standards that our industry continues to develop to improve the lifestyle for all the peoples of the world. Joey Robinson is this year’s chairman for Research Promotion and will be contacting many of you, so please help Joey in his efforts and support ASHRAE to the extent that you can.

The upcoming event that we need to mention now is the Annual President’s Ball to be held on February 19, 1999 at Club Continental in Orange Park. This year’s Ball will again be a black tie optional event as in years past. This year we are fortunate to have National Sheet Metal as a corporate Sponsor of this event, and we are able to invite all of the Past Presidents to be our guest at no cost to them and their spouses (or guest). Barry French is the chairman of this Ball and will be providing more details in the very near future. Please help Barry if you are called upon, or if you would like to get involved, please contact Barry as he welcomes any help.

As I close, I want to wish all of you the best of the holiday season, Health, Happiness and Prosperity, and look forward to 2000 as we all take ASHRAE and the Jacksonville Chapter into the new century.

October 1999

The month of October for our chapter means that it is time for the annual "Fall Golf Outing". This event is the sole fund raiser to support your chapter operations for this fiscal year, and as always is an event that is filled with good times and fellowship with your fellow members and guest. Please support Pat Norris in this year's event to the extent that you can and I am sure you will enjoy the results of a terrific day.

All of our committees are in full swing, trying to get off to a fast start for this year, and a few have achieved tremendous success in a short period of time. Tom Smith is our membership chairperson and to date has received 9 new applications for membership, and three applications for upgrades. GREAT JOB TOM! In conjunction with membership, Ed Grey has graciously offered to conduct a new member orientation for anyone interested, and we will try and schedule this in the very near future. Wade Gramley is our TEGA Chairperson and is already to 50 % of the maximum points allowed, again, HATS OFF TO WADE. We are trying to get more entries for technology awards for our members and our chapter, so if you have a project that you would like to submit, please contact Wade for further information. Joey Robinson is our Research Promotion chairperson and has a very difficult task ahead of him. We have set a goal for our chapter of $18,000.00 for Research Promotion, and Joey has accepted our challenge and will need a lot of support in order to achieve this goal. Joey is off to fast start with approximately 15 % of this goal reported to date. GOOD LUCK JOEY! All of the other committees are in the process of planing all activities to support ASHRAE in the many avenues that we are expected to participate, so as always, when called upon, PLEASE HELP AND SUPPORT ALL COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS WHEN CALLED UPON!

As you will see later in this newsletter, we will have a special chapter meeting on Thursday October 28, 1999, at which time we will have a tour of the Fuel Cell at NAS Jax Navy Hospital. TECO Gas is our host for this event and has agreed to sponsor a group of students from Student Chapter at the University of Florida. We look forward to having these students attend our meeting, and we need a strong show of support from our membership, so please plan on attending this special meeting.

Don't forget that the Oyster Roast is right around the corner, and will be held on December 3, 1999 at the Ramallah-American Club. As always this is one of the most talked about events of the year for our chapter and we look forward to great time and maybe a few surprises from our Chairpersons John Chaney and Tommy Mierzejewski.

And finally, I would like to thank Suzanne LeVisear for making sure that I stay on track and for reminding me that our leadership are CHAIRPERSONS and not chairmen!

Thanks again for all of your support.

September 1999

September is the month that really begins our new ASHRAE year, everyone is back from vacation and all are ready and hopefully willing to help out and support our chapter. As we discussed in last month's article, we have now completed the Chapters Regional Conference (CRC) which was held in Tampa and we all need to thank our Past President Bryan Finch for all the achievements that our chapter recorded this past year. We again achieved the Presidential Award of Excellence and increased our PAOE point total across the board, with special recognition going to Barry French for Membership, Ron Kessner for Student Activities and our President Elect, Eric Lentz for the Chapter Programs. Everyone should be proud of all that has come to be expected of our chapter and the goals for this coming year are higher than ever, so please get involved in any activity that you can to support our chapter and the ASHRAE society as a whole.

Our meeting attendance is improving each month, but our goal of averaging 75 people per meeting is still a ways off, so I ask for everyone to pitch in and bring a member, guest, client or anyone else to our September meeting. We can increase the visibility of our chapter and help to support the professional activities that we all depend on with a little bit of effort.

Included in this diffuser is an application for our annual "Fall Golf Outing", we encourage you to support this chapter with sponsorship and to join us for an afternoon of Fun and comradery that can only be experienced at an ASHRAE golf outing. I promise that you will see things that are indescribable, but that you don't want to miss, and we also promise not to report any of the stories that are sure to fly around the clubhouse after the round. This event is the sole fund raiser that is dedicated to support our chapter expenses for the year, and as we have already expressed, we need for all of you to help out in any way that you can.

September is also the time of year that we begin all of our committee activity including membership promotion and research promotion. We ask that you keep both of these activities in your plans for the upcoming months and support our Chairpersons when called upon.

These are just a few of our thoughts this month and as always, we encourage all of you to let myself or anyone of the board of governors know what you think of how we are doing or what we can do to improve our chapter to make Jacksonville the best chapter in ASHRAE. Good Luck to all of you, and remember lets HAVE FUN AND ENJOY ASHRAE!

Thanks for your time and support of our chapter.

August 1999

The month of August is an important month for ASHRAE. The Region 12 CRC (Chapters Regional Conference) will be held in Tampa on August 11th through the 14th. This is the time of year that all Chapters must establish goals for the upcoming year as well as review their performance of the past year in obtaining goals, and fulfilling quotas for all of the various committees and subcommittees. Also, each chapter is judged on their ability to motivate a high percentage of participation of the assigned members, so please be willing to serve our chapter when approached for help. We also must discuss the problems that all Chapters face in relation to the Society’s request for increasing membership and raising additional funds for ASHRAE Research, just to name a few. All members of ASHRAE are invited to attend this conference and we encourage anyone interested in working in ASHRAE on a chapter level or a regional level to attend. This conference is also the time that motions can be submitted to change anything within ASHRAE that you as a member feel is inadequate, inappropriate, or just outdated. Remember that ASHRAE is a society that is based on local input and all decisions in our society begin on the local grass roots level.

The next chapter meeting will be held on August 24th, and in order for us to meet our goal of a minimum of 75 members and guest to attend, we must have help from all of you. Please plan on attending this meeting and bring a fellow member, guest, client or even your boss, we promise to hold all meetings to the 1 and ½ hour time limit that you demand.

Our ASHRAE calendar for this year is filling up quickly, and we hope that you will enjoy a few of the changes that have been made to better serve you and to enable participation by a greater number of people. Some of these changes include the Presidents Ball to be held in February this year to honor all the Past Presidents, and the year-end meeting in June to be a night meeting in which all spouses are encouraged to attend as our Regional Chairman Rex Noble will be in attendance to inaugurate next years Officers and Board of Governors.

We must revise the previous announcement on the fall golf outing, the date has been changed to October 11th in order to ensure that Hidden Hills Golf Course is in top condition for all of you to enjoy this first class facility.

In closing, I appreciate all of the support that I continue to receive from all of the past officers and I encourage anyone interested in becoming involved in ASHRAE to come to any Board of Governors meeting or to help any of our committee chairpersons in their quest to make the Jacksonville Chapter of ASHRAE, the best chapter in society. Remember, have fun and enjoy the fellowship of our chapter.

July 1999

It is hard to believe that 1999 is half over, the millenium is just around the corner and it is time for a new ASHRAE year. I want to take time to congratulate Bryan Finch on a very successful year as President of our chapter, and from all our members, we appreciate your commitment and tireless effort on behalf of our chapter. We also congratulate Bryan and his wife, Beth on the birth of their second son Zachary Baker, born May 31st, he joins big brother Mathew in the Finch household.

As we begin this year, there are a number of areas of concern that we as a chapter need to improve upon:

  1. Meeting Attendance - Our chapter has 267 registered members, yet we only average around 50 members and guest at our monthly meetings. This year let's each bring a guest, potential member or current member to the meetings and increase our attendance by 50%, up to 75 or higher. If you haven't attended a meeting lately, make it a point to come this year and join in, you will enjoy the comradery of our industry and you may learn something to help in your professional activities.

  2. ASHRAE Participation - This year the Board of Governors will discuss additional social activities for members, guest and families. We need to find new and interesting way's to get more people involved in ASHRAE on both local and society levels. The Board would appreciate any help or ideas that would support this agenda and create a more exciting chapter.

  3. Contributions to ASHRAE Research - Although we all get "Hit" many times each year for donations to the many worthy causes, there are probably very few that affects our industry directly. ASHRAE Research is the backbone of our society as we all benefit each day from the many advancements brought forth by ASHRAE funded research projects. This year we would like for each member to donate $50 individually to ASHRAE Research, this individual participation would make the Jacksonville Chapter the recognizable leader in support of our society.

These are just a few of the goals of the Board of Governors and our chapter, and in advance, we appreciate any support, advice, or recommendations that any of you can offer to improve our chapter. In closing we hope this year will be rewarding for all and most importantly, HAVE FUN AND ENJOY ASHRAE!

Thanks for your time and support of our chapter.
