When & where were you born?

August 3, 1968 in Orlando Florida

Where did you go to school?

I went to School in Altamonte Springs / Longwood, just north of Orlando in Seminole County.

Do you have a college degree?

Yes, a BS in Mechanical Engineering

What was your field of study?

Mechanical Engineering

Do you have professional registration? If yes what states?

Yes, in the state of Florida

What attracted you to the HVAC&R industry?

I actually was looking for a job after graduation and saw an Ad for a Test and Balance Technician. During College I worked for the Navy performing test on materials and thought this might be similar. When I went to the interview, I found out what it was really about and decided to give it a try. I worked there for just less than a year when I found my design position with GSP.

What did you do early in your career?

My first introduction was during my job as a test and balance assistant technician. I learned a great deal about how HVAC systems are installed and how they are supposed to work during my time with T&B. The field engineer I worked with, Brice Alexander was an extremely intelligent person that was an expert in the field of T&B. To this day, I still can remember certain key concepts Brice drilled into me.

Just under a year with T&B, I decided I could design the systems and preferred that to being out in the field all the time. When GSP hired me, I worked on healthcare projects from the start and quickly determined that was were I wanted to concentrate my career.

How and when did you become interested in ASHRAE?

I knew of ASHRAE as a student during College. I took a HVAC course as an elective and the teacher encouraged us to sign up and attend the meetings. I really enjoyed going to the meetings and never forgot that experience. To this day, I still come across individuals in this industry I meet at an AHSRAE meeting in Central Florida as a student.

When I started at Gresham Smith & Partners, my boss, Dick Worth, was the incoming President of the Jacksonville Chapter. He came up to me within the first three weeks I was there and asked me, "You are doing the Diffuser, right?" Being me, I said, "Yea, what's the Diffuser? He quickly brought over a box full of old diffusers and materials that I needed to pull together the next newsletter that was due later that week. I have been involved with the Diffuser in one capacity or another since then. It also allowed me to really get involved in all the activities of the chapter since I had to write about them.
