Subject: Frank Houser, 1969 - 1970 President - Jacksonville Chapter

Frank Houser is Vice-President of W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc. and Manager of the Industrial Division. He is a veteran engineer with a diversified background in project planning and execution, and has had over 35 years experience in hospitals, paper mills, power plants, and shipboard piping. Other projects he supervises in addition to the industrial work include major expansions at Memorial Medical Center of Jacksonville, and Baptist Medical Center which has the only cogeneration plant of its size and type in the United States.

Frank was born in Thomasville, Georgia, attended local Jacksonville grade schools, and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. After a three year stint as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Frank attended the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and later graduated from the University of Florida at Gainesville with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Prior to joining W.W. Gay in l963, he was head of the Planning and Engineering Department at the St. Johns Division of Merrill-Stevens Shipyard for nine years. He left the ship repair business and joined Southern Maid Paper Company in Jacksonville as their Production Manager. In this capacity he supervised approximately 150 employees, in addition to participating in the design, equipment selection, and installation of major plant expansions at this facility.

Frank is very active in various civic and professional organizations. He has been a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers since 1968 where he served as Vice-Chairman of Region XII, and is a past President of the Jacksonville Chapter. He is a past Treasurer, Secretary, and President of the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville, as well as a past District Extension Chairman.

Frank’s son, Scott, is also employed by W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor as a Project Manager and is a member of ASHRAE.
