| ASHRAE Chapter History Leadership Recall Interview Jacksonville, Florida Chapter (034) Date: June 6, 2010 |
Do you have a college degree?
Yes, BS from University of Florida.
What was your field of study?
Mechanical Engineering.
Do you have a professional registration? If yes what state?
No.
What attracted you to the HVAC&R industry?
I took two semesters of HVAC from Dr. Sherif as an elective and enjoyed the field. Also, when I was graduating in 1993, the job market was not the greatest and York International offered me a job as a Sales Engineer.
What did you do early in your career?
I moved to York Pennsylvania for four months of training and then moved to Charlotte North Carolina to start my career as a Sales Engineer. After two years in Charlotte, York offered me an opportunity to open an office in Knoxville, TN.
How and when did you become interested in ASHRAE?
Dr. Sherif invited me to join in college. He was and still is a strong proponent of ASHRAE.
What was most memorable about your year as Chapter President?
I have participated in ASHRAE almost every year since I graduated college in one way or another. I enjoyed seeing the perspective of ASHRAE as the President. It was a totally different perspective than I had experienced before. I was amazed by the people around me that were willing to volunteer so much of their time to make it a great year.
